A Vision for the Gem City
Government:
Gary Leitzell will make City Hall work for YOU. Gary Leitzell strongly believes that city government must be in the business of providing high quality services to its customers. Gary Leitzell will hold government accountable for the quality of those services and make customer service a focus at city hall. As mayor, Gary Leitzell will ensure that open dialog thrives between the residents and city hall. Public participation and creative thinking should be encouraged at all times. Every employee of city hall needs to be encouraged to think not only outside of the box, but beyond the box. Gary Leitzell will be happy to encourage this kind of thinking when he is Mayor.
Economic Development:
As Mayor, Gary Leitzell will work to lift the restrictions and barriers that prevent businesses from doing business in Dayton. He will request that the numerous economic development groups meet regularly and formulate a regional plan that includes downtown Dayton. He believes a grocery store in Downtown Dayton is a necessity and will diligently strive to attract a quality food store. Gary Leitzell also believes that we need to attract and develop businesses centered on recycling and alternative fuel motorized transport. He wants city government to think at the speed of technology, plan at the speed of business and be ready to act before the ink dries. Dayton must become a world leader, not a world follower.
Public Safety:
Gary Leitzell will change the perception of Dayton when it comes to public safety. He will work with local media to ensure accurate reporting of crime statistics. He will work with law enforcement and fire safety departments to guarantee efficient service. He will make certain that there are police on the streets. Gary Leitzell will continue to expanding and strengthen the Neighborhood Assistance Officer program.
Gary Leitzell will bring back the community oriented policing that will gain the public trust. He will initiate programs that will make children want to be public safety officers once again.
